RATIOS AND PROPORTION

1.
A and B together have Rs. 1210. If   4/15 of A's amount is equal to 2/5 of B's amount, how much amount does B have?

1:RS 460
2:RS 468
3;RS 484
4;RS 510

SOLUTION: EQUATE     4/15 OF A = 2/5 OF B.
A/B =3/2( TAKING OUT A/B ON LHS FROM ABOVE)
           THERFORE,

                      B'S AMOUNT = 2/5 * 1210 = 484

OPTION 3 IS RIGHT ANSWER.

HELLO  EVERYONE,

This is Sanjay shenoy, I will be joining with Raghavendra and posting some important aptitude questions for those who are preparing for upcoming company recruitement drives along with myself.

The main thing you need before doing something is to be foccused, and give best out of it!! when coming to prepartion of placements,my view of opinion is that to be confident provided not your over confident.

As there is famous english saying "practice makes the man perfect" which strongly adhers to a point that skill is more better than talent.

So always keep your mind on a peace mode to do something!!

I remember my guru saying all the time this thing which do is inspiring me  to get on to  a right platform

"REMEMBER YOU ARE THE ONLY ONE WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR YOUR DESTINY,WHAT YOU DO RIGHT NOW IS A COMPLETE REFLECTION IN YOUR FUTURE.

Thank you,
with regards

hi there!!!

By this time you all would be wondering why are the method so uncertain.Every problem will have one unique method and how to remember all those during the test...

solution is simple ..
there is no particular solution, you can figure out your own ways to solve it
it can be the traditional way or option check etc etc

and do remember one thing this is not like your normal exams to learn something and present it on a examination day or hope for some repeated questions but just practice hard so that you will be on the same page of the book.

just understand the concepts and few basic relation between them and then try to solve each problem as a challenge.

1 last thing aptitude is a elimination process and not a selection process, so make sure you are better than others :)

profit ,discount,markup

profit=37.5%

discount =20%

markup =?

discount =20/100=1/5 ---(1)
profit=37.5/100=3/8    ---(2)

therefore  from (2)

we can conclude

for something worth 100 rs profit is 37.5rs
hence when scaled down something worth 8 rs will have profit of 3rs

so write the ratio
CP +  profit  =SP
8    + 3          =11

from equation (1)

for some item with marked price with 100rs will have discount of 20 rs
hence when scaled down item worth 5rs will have discount of 1rs

so,
MP - discount =SP
5     -1              =4

CP    profit  SP      MP  discount
8       3          11
                       4      5        1

-----------------------------------------
8*4   3*4       11*4  11*5  11*1
-------------------------------------------
32      12           44      55       11

55 rs

marked price , discount and selling price

Find the Marked price.if selling price is=120 and discount =25%

ans:
step 1: convert the discount into fractions= 25/100=1/4
step 2:
           MP    -  discount =    SP

4         -   1            =     3   (this is by the ratio that you got on step1)

(main logic behind is convert any problem into a fraction to solve it quickly. ie scale it down  )

now observer the ratio between actual  SP and ratio SP(step 2)

120/3 =40  hence this ratio holds good for all other varying terms

therefore multiply 40 with 1( ratio profit)  =40
              multiply 40 with 4(ratio SP )       =4*40=160

Cost price ,selling price and profit

Find the SP.if cost price is=120 and profit=25%

ans:
step 1: convert the profit into fractions= 25/100=1/4
step 2:
           CP    +  Profit =    SP

4         +   1      =5   (this is by the ratio that you got on step1)

(main logic behind is convert any problem into a fraction to solve it quickly. ie scale it down  )

now observer the ratio between actual  CP  and ratio CP(step 2)

120/4 =30 hence this ratio holds good.

therefore multiply 30 with 1( ratio profit)  =30
              multiply 30 with 5(ratio SP )       =5*30=150

Number system

Q1. If X^7 -X^3=1234 and if X is a natural number less than 350 .Find the number of values of X satisfying this equation.

solution:

this problem is solved based on cyclic principle of power of a number.

for example natural numbers ending with 2,3,4,7,8 has cyclic behavior of its units place after every 4 intervals(n=1,2,3,4)

2^1=2
2^2=4
2^3=8
2^4=16

2^5=32
2^6=64
2^7=128
2^8=256

2^9=512

here we can see the units place repeats 2,4,8,6 again and again and again

exception for this logic is number ending with 5,6 and 9

for numbers ending with 5^n where n is a natural number its units place will be 5
for numbers ending with 6^n where n is a natural number its units place is 6
for numbers ending with 9^n where n is a natural number its units place can be 1or 9(cyclic pattern repeats after every 2 intervals )

we can observe X^7 -X^3 's unit place is same.
for example 2^3=8 and 2^7=128. when subtracted units place must be zero.

hence in the above question X^7 -X^3 =1234

will not have any solution because units place is not zero

Are you all worried about aptitude???

Guys remember one simple thing in this test.
Its not only about how good you are in solving problems ,but also how quickly you solve.
To do this you need to know the shortcut methods and I will be solving few problems in my future blogs.

some important books that I would suggest you is
